With every video game comes a controversy. Some of these controversies, of course, stem from religion and religious depiction. While they may be a little far-fetched, everyone knows people are constantly looking to fight for one reason or another.
Smite, of course, has come into some controversy over their game and use of gods and goddesses. One of the biggest would be the Hindu community being upset with the depiction of their god Kali. They said her character model was oversexualized and wanted her to be removed completely from the game. One main problem with this controversy is Kali is depicted naked and in much more revealing and even sometimes being naked.

Some examples of religious subtext in games can be very subtle. Like in the game LittleBigPlanet. Something as small as the background music containing words of the Qur’an was enough to set off people in the Islamic community. This just goes to show how easy it is to slip up and add something that is considered offensive to your game and how careful you must be while making it.
